What changes at B1

At B1, it is not enough to write correct isolated sentences. Your reader should understand your opinion, your reasons, and how the ideas connect. You still do not need complicated German; you need organised German.

Plan before you write

A good B1 answer often begins before the first sentence. Choose your position, write down two reasons, and add one concrete example. This prevents the text from becoming a loose list of thoughts.

  • Position: Ich bin dafür / dagegen.
  • Reason: Das ist wichtig, weil ...
  • Example: Zum Beispiel ...
  • Conclusion: Deshalb finde ich, dass ...

Use connectors with control

Connectors should make the reader’s job easier. Do not add them only to sound advanced. Use a few correctly and place the verb carefully.

The text gives a clear opinion, two sides of the topic, examples, and a short final position. It uses weil, trotzdem, zum Beispiel, and deshalb in a way that shows relationships between ideas.

Common B1 mistakes

Many B1 texts lose clarity because the argument is too general. A reader should not only see your opinion, but also understand your reason.

  • Too general: Online-Shopping ist gut. Better: Online-Shopping ist praktisch, weil man Preise schnell vergleichen kann.
  • Verb-position error: weil man kann Zeit sparen. Correct: weil man Zeit sparen kann.
  • Weak ending: Das ist mein Text. Better: Deshalb finde ich, dass beide Möglichkeiten sinnvoll sind.

Revision routine

After feedback, revise in this order: task completion, paragraph order, connectors, verb position, then vocabulary. This order keeps you from polishing sentences that do not answer the task.
