B1 German Speaking Practice: Real Dialogues for Goethe and telc Exams
Practise B1 German speaking with realistic Goethe and telc-style dialogues, partner-planning topics, useful Redemittel, exam tips, and linked video practice.
What real B1 speaking practice should feel like
Good B1 speaking practice is not a perfect speech. It sounds like two people solving a small task together: they suggest, react, ask follow-up questions, make a decision, and divide the work. That is why real dialogues are useful for Goethe and telc preparation. They show the rhythm of the conversation, not only isolated model sentences.
- Use the videos as exam-style practice, not as official Goethe or telc exam material.
- Pause after each useful phrase and say your own version aloud.
- Practise with a timer so your answer does not become too long or too scripted.
The B1 topics that appear again and again
Many B1 speaking tasks are ordinary planning situations. The topic changes, but the job is usually the same: decide what to do, when to meet, where to meet, what to bring, who pays, and who is responsible for each part.
- Party or Abschiedsparty: food, music, invitations, budget, cleaning.
- Trip or Urlaub: destination, transport, dates, hotel, activities.
- Appointment or Arztbesuch: time, urgency, documents, telephone phrases.
- Event visit: tickets, meeting point, price, preference, backup plan.
- Group activity: sport, zoo, concert, cleanup action, study group.
A realistic mini dialogue
Read the task first: Sie planen mit Ihrem Partner eine Kochaktion für eine Abschiedsparty. Sprechen Sie über Essen, Einkauf, Zeit, Kosten und Aufgaben.
- A: Wir müssen etwas Einfaches kochen. Was hältst du von Pasta und Salat?
- B: Das finde ich gut, weil es nicht zu teuer ist. Wer kauft die Zutaten?
- A: Ich kann am Freitag einkaufen. Kannst du Getränke und Teller mitbringen?
- B: Ja, gern. Treffen wir uns um 16 Uhr in der Küche?
- A: Einverstanden. Dann haben wir genug Zeit vor der Party.
How to use the playlist
Do not watch the whole playlist passively. Pick one video, write the topic at the top of a page, and note only the phrases you could actually reuse. Then close the transcript or subtitles and speak the same plan with a different detail.
- First watch: understand the situation and decisions.
- Second watch: collect Redemittel for suggestions, reactions, and compromise.
- Third round: speak your own version with a timer.
Important videos to start with
If you are preparing quickly, start with the cooking action and holiday planning videos. They cover common B1 exam moves: suggesting, agreeing, rejecting politely, giving reasons, and assigning tasks.
- Kochaktion für die Abschiedsparty planen: useful for roles, food, budget, and polite disagreement.
- Einen Urlaub planen: useful for transport, hotel, activities, dates, and compromise.
- Arztbesuch planen: useful for appointments, urgency, and polite requests.
- Umzug planen: useful for practical help, time, transport, and responsibility.
Goethe and telc exam tips
For Goethe B1 and telc B1, the safest speaking habit is cooperation. Show that you can keep the conversation moving. Ask your partner a real question, answer their suggestion, and make one clear decision before the time ends.
- Do not memorise one full dialogue. Memorise flexible sentence starters.
- React before you add a new idea: Das passt gut, aber... / Ja, das ist praktisch.
- Use simple reasons: weil es billiger ist, weil wir mehr Zeit haben, weil alle kommen können.
- End with a decision: Also, wir treffen uns..., Ich kaufe..., Du bringst...

Watch on YouTubeFrequently asked questions
Are these B1 speaking dialogues official Goethe or telc exam questions?
No. They are original exam-style practice dialogues for learners preparing for common Goethe B1 and telc B1 speaking formats. Use official model tests for official sample tasks.
How often should I practise B1 dialogues?
Short daily practice works better than one long session. Ten to fifteen minutes with one topic, one dialogue, and one spoken repeat is enough to build fluency.
Should I memorise full B1 speaking answers?
Memorise useful phrases, not full answers. In the exam, you need to react to your partner, so flexible Redemittel are safer than a fixed script.
