Start with the three task points

Tom is your friend, so use du, a direct greeting, and a warm closing. A2 writing rewards the right register. Mit freundlichen Grüßen is grammatically correct, but it sounds too formal for a casual SMS to a friend.

  • Use Hallo Tom, not Sehr geehrter Tom.
  • Use du and dir because Tom is your friend.
  • End with Liebe Grüße for a warm informal closing.

Build the message in four moves

A safe A2 structure is: ask if your friend is free, explain the plan, suggest a time and place, and ask for a reply. This keeps the SMS short, natural, and complete.

Grammar that matters here

The useful grammar is small but important. Mit takes the dative, so du becomes dir. Kaffee is masculine, so after trinken we write einen Kaffee. Treffen wir uns needs the reflexive pronoun uns.
