A2 SMS Writing: Tom auf Kaffee im Café Central treffen

Start with the three task points

In an A2 SMS, a friendly tone is not enough. The examiner checks whether Tom understands why you are writing, when you want to meet, and where you want to meet. Read those three points before you write any sentence.

Tom is your friend, so use du, a direct greeting, and a warm closing. A2 writing rewards the right register. Mit freundlichen Grüßen is grammatically correct, but it sounds too formal for a casual SMS to a friend.

A safe A2 structure is: ask if your friend is free, explain the plan, suggest a time and place, and ask for a reply. This keeps the SMS short, natural, and complete.

Grammar that matters here

The useful grammar is small but important. Mit takes the dative, so du becomes dir. Kaffee is masculine, so after trinken we write einen Kaffee. Treffen wir uns needs the reflexive pronoun uns.

  • Wrong register: Mit freundlichen Grüßen in a friend SMS.
