Learn how to complete A1 German form-filling tasks by finding information in the text, copying accurately, and checking common exam fields.

Read this like a short teacher lesson: understand the task, study the model, then try one linked practice prompt while the pattern is fresh.
1

What A1 form filling really tests

In Goethe-style A1 Schreiben Teil 1, you usually do not need to invent German sentences. Your main job is to read a short situation, find the exact information, and transfer it into a form. The mark often depends on careful reading and accurate copying.

2

Read the form fields first

Before translating the full text, look at the missing fields. The fields tell you what to search for. If the form asks for Telefonnummer, E-Mail-Adresse, Personenzahl, Termin, and Nachricht, you can scan the text only for those five pieces of information.

  • Telefonnummer = phone number
  • E-Mail-Adresse = email address
  • Personenzahl = number of people
  • Termin = appointment, date, or time
  • Nachricht = message
3

Copy fixed information exactly

Names, phone numbers, email addresses, dates, and messages should normally be copied exactly as they appear. Do not translate an email address, change spacing in a phone number, or rewrite a given message in your own words.

4

Count people carefully

Personenzahl is where many learners lose an easy point. If the text says mit meinem Partner, mit meiner Frau, mit meinem Mann, or mit meinem Freund, count the writer plus the other person. That usually means 2, not 1.

  • Ich komme allein. = 1 person
  • Ich komme mit meinem Partner. = 2 people
  • Wir kommen mit unseren zwei Kindern. = 4 people
5

Watch date and time words

For a field such as gewünschter Termin, include both the day or date and the time when they are given. In German forms, um introduces the time, and am or der often helps you find the date.

  • am Freitag = on Friday
  • der 6. März = 6 March
  • um 17 Uhr = at 5 p.m.
6

Practise five questions next

After reading this guide, practise a small set of form tasks while the method is fresh. Start with one apartment or appointment form, then move to health, library, and hotel forms. This gives you repeated exposure to the most common A1 fields without feeling like a new topic every time.

7

Final exam check

At the end, compare each answer against the original text. Check numbers digit by digit, email punctuation, capital letters in names, and whether every form field has one clear answer.

Frequently asked questions

Should I translate the whole A1 form-filling text?

No. First read the missing form fields, then scan the text for those details. Translate only enough to understand which information belongs in each field.

Can I change the wording of a message in the form?

If the question gives the exact message, copy it exactly. Rewriting can create grammar mistakes or change the meaning.

What is the easiest way to avoid losing marks?

Copy numbers, names, email addresses, dates, and given messages carefully, then check every answer against the original text before submitting.
